Behind the Scenes - Day 5
Day 5 – Thursday 21 August
With just hours to go until the teams arrive, there’s an air of anticipation as the final preparations are made. Dick and Grant make the final checks in the fifth pit, where teams will get the chance to extricate a casualty from a heavy goods vehicle as part of a special heavy rescue workshop. The last of the equipment for the trauma challenge is delivered and two spectators’ grandstands are built. A small plant vehicle is used to move the cars into position.
Dick, Seth and the support team meet with Ian McCusker of Central Scotland FRS to finalise details for the opening ceremony, captains’ meeting, pit crew and other general aspects of the competition.
Equipment arrives for a new car technology workshop, including cutaway models of the latest Volvo and Lexus cars. Trauma Challenge co-ordinator John Hall arrives and assembles his team. Timetables are printed and last minute phone calls are taken from the participating teams.
Dick and Seth host an assessors’ meeting where they introduce Head Assessor Bill Denny.
The teams, organisers, UKRO officials and representatives from the host FRS meet for a drinks reception followed by the opening ceremony hosted by Central Scotland FRS. This is followed by a captains’ meeting, where the holdalls are handed out and the captains are briefed on the competition and have the opportunity to ask questions.
