IDP Poland.

Background

In 2005 the WRO was invited to meet with members of a Polish task force team that was looking at road traffic collisions. At that time the group was looking for a partner to assist with the development of rescue capability from vehicles.

Initial contacts came from the Global Road Safety Partnership and the World Health Organisation. A number of meetings took place both in Poland and the UK. From these it was agreed that Poland would develop a national rescue organisation, challenge and training to enhance existing rescue skills would be provided by the UKRO IDP. In addition recommendations to review existing procedures would also be looked at.

Due to changes in government and at strategic managers posts within the Polish Fire Service the above plans were not put into place.

Next Steps

To reinvigorate this programme now that posts are stabilising. It is hoped that in 2009 Poland will again become involved with the WRO and UKRO IDP. For more details contact Cameron Black at cameron.black@strathclydefire.org
